Crate Kennel Divider
The words dog “kennel” and dog “crate” are interchangeable. Both are used to describe hard plastic, metal or cloth enclosures for dogs. They’re used for a variety of functions including; keeping your dog safe, as a ‘den’, as a place to sleep, a way to transport and as a way to potty train puppies. Dogs are ‘denning’ animals and may resist at first, but with a little work your pup will grow to enjoy their time in their kennel or crate.
Hard Plastic Crates
These are a very popular type of crate. They’re light, easy to clean and relatively inexpensive. They’re great if you’re potty training your puppy, since they have a hard plastic bottom and nothing will get through to your floors. They provide insulation which can be helpful if you live in a cold climate or if you have a new puppy that needs warmth. They are also widely used for travel on airplanes. The drawbacks are that they don’t let a lot of light in and can trap odors.
Soft Sided Crates
These are great if your dog isn’t into chewing or being destructive. If they are, don’t bother with a soft sided crate, you’ll come home to a hole chewed through the zipper and the pup will be running loose. These are also very light, therefore great for travel, use in the car and some are even collapsible to travel with. The soft sides are more comfortable to lean against for your pup too. They come in every color and design imaginable, so your and your pup can be stylist and functional.
Metal / Wire Crates
These are great for letting lots of air and light in and they come in big sizes for your big dogs. You may want to cover it with a blanket if the dog is sleeping in it though. They come in a variety of sizes and it’s possible to use dividers so that you can make it small for a puppy and expand as the dog becomes full sized. They break down easily and can be transported, but beware that they may be very heavy if you have a large one.
It’s your personal choice as to what crate will work best for you and your dog. It’s an important choice, so make sure to shop around and weigh all of your options.
