Although they’re small in size and are less likely to create great trouble, yorkies need yorkie training too. As with any other dog breeds, they too, can develop several behavior issues that wouldn’t occur otherwise if they’re given appropriate training. So if you does not want a small dog who turns into little monster when you are gone, you better start training your precious pooch now.
To prevent your pet from going into hysterical stage when you step out of the door, make him understand that he’s not the center of your world. Be a confident pack leader so that he’ll figure out that he can’t get your attention by barking excessively or chewing the furniture, but instead, by staying well-behaved regardless if you are home or not.
Another yorkie training advice to prevent destructive behaviors when you’re away from home is to keep your departures and arrivals low key. Leave and return home without being too emotional. Initially, go out of the house for just a few seconds and get back inside before he starts to cry or bark. Gradually increase the time of you being out but make sure to return before he starts barking. If he starts to bark while you are out, hold back until he has stopped barking before returning. Eventually, he will realize that there’s really no need to feel bad each time you leave since you will always come back.
Using crates can also help you deal with the issue. As long as your pet is crate trained, it is possible to leave him alone in the house without having to worry about him messing with things he is not supposed to mess or your pricey rug being chewed or urinated. Some dogs can stay in the crate for hours without making a fuss. Just keep in mind to make the crate really comfy by adding his favorite blanket and toys.
Yorkie training to deal with this issue may last long but once you’ve successfully achieved it, everything will be worth it because you know that you can be at ease even though your dearest pooch is alone at home.
