Dog Eye Problems and Symptoms You Shouldn’t Ignore

Many dog owners take it for granted that their dog’s sight is completely ok. But it may well happen that a dog’s ability to see well deteriorates: Something that can dramatically change his life and also the dog owner’s life.

There is no doubt that our dog is a wonderful companion and valued family member. He protects our home and gives us his unconditional love – not expecting anything in exchange.

Day to day, they are happy to see you, excited for their daily walks and counting the minutes until dinner time. The only problem with our loving canines is that they are great at hiding when something is wrong.

This is particularly true when our dog suffers from health problems. The strong family member that he is it would not be unusual that he behaves in a way that does not make it obvious for us to determine that there is a problem. Unfortunately, if we miss to understand his condition, a lot of damage can be caused.

Most conditions like for example minor eye problems not necessarily lead to permanent problems if treated immediately und adequately. But watch out: It is not easy to identify a dog’s eye problem as easily as an ear infection. In the latter case the pet shakes his head and the ear gets red.

One of the rare signs is when the dog’s eyes start weeping. Another one could be when his eyes get crusty in the corners. In all these cases do not hesitate to see your veterinarian.

Dog’s eye problems when getting worse and more serious can easily lead to blindness if the pet does not receive proper treatment. Maybe you consider your dog being clumsy because once in a while he bumps into things while playing. This behavior can as well be a symptom for not seeing well.

Maybe your dog resists walking down stairs because he doesn’t feel safe and comfortable anymore. Such a behavior does not come from one day to the other but develops over time.

This is to encourage you to observe and to take serious any sign that you might notice – which is not always easy. But pay attention in the interest of your dog and yours as well.
