Dog lovers usually know about diarrhea in dogs and how it works as it is something that is quite common but fewer people know about the real reasons of diarrhea, what causes it and the different varieties.
Changing the diet your dog is currently on is one thing that can cause diarrhea such as if your dog is eating dog food that has a special blend and you change his diet where you begin to feed him scraps from the table then it is likely he may get diarrhea as a result.
If you change the type of water you are giving him it is another possible cause for diarrhea, sometimes when you are traveling this can happen.
This problem can be amplified if you have a puppy. After all, an older dog is much more resilient to changes. A puppy might not yet be.
If you got your puppy from a breeder, ask him what food he fed your puppy. This will put you in a position where you can feed your puppy the food he is already used to.
If you cannot find out about what food your puppy was used to prior to coming to you, ask your vet for his best recommendations.
This way you are sure the puppy will be fed the proper food for him to be healthy and strong.
If your puppy has been fed a diet such as raw meat or table scraps in the past and you want to give him commercially available food, do it in steps slowly making the transition from the old one to the new one.
You can do this by mixing some commercial food in with the raw meat. And then each day give him more commercial food and less raw meat, this way you are slowly changing his diet and this will prevent diarrhea from happening in dogs. Chances are, your dog won’t make a fuss over it either.
