Few things change one’s life like a puppy does. The responsibility is huge. And not only does one need to be there for the dog, the expenses to care for him are substantial too. Giving a puppy as a gift would be like surprising someone with a baby.

There is only one exception to this rule, only one situation in which is it acceptable to give a puppy as a gift: When the future owner has already selected the dog and all you do is pay for it.
