Leather Dog Leash
Dogs communicate with one another by using body language. By learning to read these simple signs a dog gives us through his body expressions and posture, you will be able to understand the mood he feels at the moment.
Fearful: A dog that is fearful will have his tail tucked between his legs. He is showing submissiveness. Dogs that are in this position are communicating that he means no trouble and he is no threat to you at all. He will also not look at you or another animal in the eyes. He will avert them in another direction. He will be holding his ears back and his head will be held low.
Anxious or Stressed: We aren’t the only ones who can become stressed out in daily life. Our canine friends can too. An anxious or stressed dog may pant heavily. Anxious dogs will often whine or moan. They may also act a bit submissive but will hold their ears partially back and stretch their neck out too. Also, their tail may be partially tucked between their legs. They may stand in a tense position and sometimes they may even shudder.
Aggressive: An aggressive dog will lean forward with his body. His ears will be up and forward and he will be standing tall. His hair on his back (called the hackles) will be raised. His tail will be up and will be stiff. He may snarl or his nose may wrinkle in an upward position. He will stare at the animal or person he feels aggression towards. Never stare directly back at a dog that is showing these signs of aggression.
Happy/Confident: A happy dog is always a joy to see. The tail will be wagging, and often the body is wiggling at the same time. It seems as though their whole body is screaming, “Pet me!” Their mouth may be partially open and they may even pant a little. This dog is friendly, content and it shows. A confident dog is much like the happy dog but a little more serious looking. This dog will stand straight, tall and hold his head high. The ears will be perked up and eyes will be bright. Its tail might sway a little, it may curl up, or it might just hang in a relaxed position. This dog feels good in his surroundings and is also non-threatening.
Playful: Dogs will use a play bow to say, “Hey, I’m in the mood to play a game!” When a dog is in a play bow, the front half on the body is lowered so that the forelegs are touching the ground and his rear end will be sticking in the air. His tail will be wagging and he may bark in a higher pitched bark than his normal bark. It’s time to play!
